Join me on a journey through the picturesque landscapes of Ooty and I will unveil the expenses incurred during our recent 3-night and 4-day getaway to this enchanting hill station.
One resolution of my wife and mine in 2024 was to start travelling and exploring new places. We are focusing on creating a variety of life experiences. It doesn’t matter whether our experiences are small or big, free or expensive. We just want to collect more and more experiences through travelling to new destinations as a tourist and as explorers.
We had been delaying our travel plans for long but this is the year when we decided to start another phase of our life as travellers.
Ooty Travel Expenses: Unveiling the Cost of Our 3 Nights, 4 Days Adventure

Let’s dive into the heart of our Ooty adventure!
From 7th March 2024 to March 10, 2024, I along with my wife immersed ourselves in the beauty of Ooty, exploring its captivating attractions and savouring every moment of our stay.
We started from our home in Coimbatore at about seven-thirty in the morning in the privately hired cab through the Goibibo app.
The early morning weather was pleasant as our cab sped at a reasonable speed. On the way, we enjoyed and soaked in the beautiful scenery and the hairpin bends of Ooty.
We reached our hotel way before the check-in time. The lively and energetic staff at the reception gladly allowed us to check in way before time.
**Accommodation Costs:**
First things first – settling into the decent hotel in Ooty.
With a total of 3 nights and 4 days stay at Ooty, our accommodation expenses amounted to Rs. 4500/- for two people. Once again, we had booked our hotel using the Goibibo app.
Situated in the heart of the city on Charing Cross, Ettines Road, our hotel stay provided the perfect base for our Ooty escapade. It was like a central spot from where we could easily access restaurants, and shops and travel to various tourist spots.
So the per day cost averaged out to Rs. 1500/-. It was a good deal for us as we were not looking for someplace too expensive or too cheap. Safety and cleanliness are our major concerns while we travel to different destinations.
**Transportation Expenses to Ooty:**
Getting to Ooty was a breeze, thanks to a convenient taxi journey. The driver was professional and manoeuvred the car smoothly as we drove uphill towards Ooty.
We spent Rs. 5040/- for our to-and-fro journey, ensuring hassle-free transportation throughout my trip.
If we divide the cost by two it comes to Rs.2,520/- for one side. Once again, this was a trip from Coimbatore to Ooty and back.
We had previously been to Ooty by bus too and we could have opted for this cheaper mode. But we wanted to have a different kind of experience and needed to be dropped off at the hotel instead of carrying our items of luggage around.
**Food and Dining Costs:**
Ah, the culinary delights of Ooty restaurants!
Our another major Ooty travel expenses was on food.
Over the course of 4 days and 3 nights, we indulged in the delicious flavours of the region, spending a total of Rs. 5342/- on food and dining.
If I convert this to per day cost then it comes to Rs.1,335.50 for two people having three times meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner and sometimes snacks).
From traditional South Indian and North Indian cuisine to cozy cafes serving aromatic brews, we tried various restaurants.
And let me tell you, whether it was breakfast on a cool morning or lunch or dinner with a glass of beer, most of the meals were a delightful eating experience.
**Attractions and Activities:**
No trip to Ooty is complete without immersing oneself in its rich cultural and natural heritage.
We had not allocated any fixed amount for the local sightseeing experience. We enquired at the hotel for distant tourist spots and walked to the nearby destinations. The person at the reception gave us a good option to join a group on a minivan for the local sightseeing and we grabbed it.
After the trip when we calculated, our total travel expenses came to Rs. 1,970/- for local touring, including entry tickets to attractions and miscellaneous activities.
From exploring botanical gardens to going for a boat ride at Pykara Boat House and embarking on scenic hikes, every tourist spot was filled with wonder, discovery and a bit of excitement.
**Total Trip Cost:**
In total, our 3 nights and 4 days escapade to Ooty amounted to a memorable adventure that was worth every penny. It was a time well spent away from work and other daily hassles back home.
For those beautiful four days when we woke up the only thing on our minds was where do we go today, what more can we explore in Ooty today, instead of worrying about reaching work on time and trying to deal with situations that are not in your control?
With a combined expenditure of Rs. 16,852/-, we found that experiencing the beauty of Ooty was truly priceless.
In addition to the above cost, my wife did some local shopping that amounted to around Rs. 1,200/-. This made our total travel expenses to Ooty as Rs. 18,052/-.
We are doing our bit to help the local businesses by looking out for what we can purchase and take back home. This is in addition to eating out at various restaurants.
**Reflection and Tips:**
Reflecting on my Ooty odyssey, I’m filled with gratitude towards the hill station for the unforgettable memories created during my stay.
From the lush greenery and beautiful sceneries to the welcoming hospitality, it has always been a pleasure to travel to Ooty.
As for fellow travellers planning their own Ooty escapade, my advice is simple:
Every step you take on the lands of Ooty can be an experience. Don’t miss it.

Finally, it was time to return to our regular world of work and daily routines.
We once again booked a cab from the Goibibo app one day before our check out from the hotel.
The cab arrived on time. As we left our hotel room with our luggage, I took a final look at the room where we had spent 3 nights. I thanked the room for giving us a peaceful stay.
We did the formalities and checked out of our hotel. We settled in our cab and it moved out of the hotel premises.
As we bid adieu to the serene landscapes of Ooty, I carry with me cherished memories and a renewed sense of inspiration to become a wanderlust.
This journey of Ooty may have come to an end, but the spirit of adventure continues to beckon, urging us to explore new horizons and embark on new adventures.
