In this blog I am going to share with you my personal experience of how I reached the Ganapati Temple and other ways available to reach Siddhivinayak Temple.
Let’s get started and map out your journey on how to reach Siddhivinayak Temple from Dadar Station.
Where is Siddhivinayak Temple?
The Siddhivinayak Temple is located in Prabhadevi in Mumbai. The shortest route to reach the Ganapati Temple is to arrive at the nearest railway station, which is Dadar.
Distance from Dadar station to Siddhivinayak temple
Once you reach Dadar, the travel distance between Dadar Station to Siddhivinayak Temple is just 2.6 kms. Even though the distance is less and might appear just under 5 minutes to reach, some days due to traffic it might take a bit longer. What I suggest is, never be in a hurry to reach your destination.
Is Siddhivinayak Temple in Dadar West or East?
The temple is located in Dadar West.
If you are travelling by train, most of the time it’s confusing to know which side of the station is east and which side is west, especially if you are new to Mumbai.
Let me give you a rule of thumb for understanding the east and west side of Western railway.
Stand on the platform facing Churchgate station. Your left hand side is the East and your right hand side is West.
There are over bridges on every platform that will take you to whichever side you want to go.
But for Siddhivinayak Temple come out at the Dadar West side.

Choosing Your Mode of Transportation
The ways in which you can reach Siddhivinayak Temple from Dadar station is quite simple. You have three primary options to reach the temple – take a cab, hop on to a local bus, or take a walk to the temple.
CAB / TAXI:
The fastest way to reach the temple is taking a taxi from Dadar station west. So, if you prefer a comfortable and short ride to the temple then hailing a cab is the best option.
But to catch a taxi you will have to walk till the main road.
As you take the staircase to come to the west side of the station you will experience a sea of people on the move – some in a hurry to reach somewhere while others taking their own sweet time to walk.
These people on the move provide a rhythmic beat to the city.
If you rarely travel by local trains then this is your opportunity to absorb the bustling atmosphere around you. You can even capture the moment on your Smartphone by clicking a selfie.
If you come out from the center exit, you will have to walk under the flyover to reach the road.
The road just outside Dadar station west is even more crowded with street side shops and pedestrians rushing. As you walk towards the main road, look around; take time to observe the hustle and bustle of the area. You can hear the shopkeepers shouting at the top of their voice to tell the passerby’s what they have to offer and how cheap it is.
With people crossing you from all directions, it might take quite some time to maneuver through the crowd to catch a taxi.
But wading through the crowd is also a good adventure. You get to see different kinds of people and all kinds of things sold by the street shopkeepers.
In Dadar you will not find an auto rickshaw. They are limited only till Bandra – Sion Station. So, you will need to catch a cab.
As the distance is just about 2.6 kilometers, the taxi fare will also be less. It may cost you less than fifty rupees. A small disclaimer: The amount may increase over a period of time.
If you are travelling from other parts of Mumbai, you can catch a local train to Dadar. Nowadays the local railways run Air-conditioned Trains where there will not be too much rush. The cost per ticket will be on the higher side for AC locals. Do check the timing of the AC train before planning the train trip. You can do that by downloading “M Indicator” app. It’s an award winning public transport app of India. It shows Mumbai local train timetable and live train status. In addition, it also carries bus, auto and taxi information. This app is very helpful for travelers to get instant information about train and bus timings.
If you are high on budget you can also hire direct private taxi from any part of Mumbai and arrive at Siddhivinayak Temple.
BUS:
The next best option is BEST bus. If you have not enjoyed a local bus ride in Mumbai, then this can be a good option.
To catch the local bus again, you will have to reach the main road. Once at the main road, ask some local shops from where you can catch the bus for Siddhivinayak Temple. On the streets of Mumbai, if you feel that you have lost your way, just ask people around you and they will guide you.
It will take you longer to reach the temple depending on the timing of the bus. You may have to wait for awhile before the bus arrives. Also, once in the bus, it will follow its standard travel route.
The bus journey allows you to witness the cityscape and the locality of Dadar west through the windows of the bus. If you are not in a hurry and have some amount of patience, then you can choose to travel by bus.
NAVIGATING THE STREETS ON FOOT:
Finally, if you are more adventurous and love walking then the next option is to take a walk till the temple.
When I visited Siddhivinayak Ganpati Temple during the month of November, 2023, I walked till the temple.
I love walking and have many a time walked till hours so it was not a tough task for me.
I recommend you to choose this option if you are a small group or are travelling alone. If you are headed to the temple with your family and children, then I would suggest go for a cab because it might be hectic and tiring for them.
Even if you don’t know the way to Siddhivinayak temple, it’s not a problem. At every nook and corner you will find lots of small shops where you can stop and ask for direction. They will willingly guide you to your destination.
One advantage of travelling by foot is that you can experience the ups and downs of the path. One precaution that you should take while walking is to watch your steps. Oftentimes you might find some small potholes and uneven surfaces. Chances are you may stumble while walking.
Also, make sure that you are wearing comfortable footwear to walk the distance without experiencing pain in your foot.
There are many roadside food stalls. On the way, if you feel like taking a break for a vada pav or a cup of tea or any other beverage then you can stop by for a few minutes and then move on.
After a long time I was visiting the temple and I didn’t know the way. My brother was with me and he frequently visited the temple. I just walked along with him as he led the way.
