How To Reach Adiyogi Shiva Statue from Coimbatore by Bus
Reach Gandhipuram Bus Depot
If you are not staying at a place that is on the way to Adiyogi Shiva Statue then in order to visit the site you will have to come to Gandhipuram bus depot.
If you are staying near Coimbatore railway station, from there you need to catch a bus that will bring you to Gandhipuram bus depot.
Those who are new to Coimbatore, let me inform you that there are two bus depots at Gandhipuram – One depot where you get buses for outstations and the second depot is the local bus depot from where you get buses to travel in the city. Both are opposite to each other. You have to reach the local bus depot. At the depot, you can see the beautiful red coloured buses. Here you will also find a few old buses plying.
The bus numbers that will take you to Isha Yoga Center are – 14D, 14A, 14C, and 14G. The average frequency of the buses leaving for Isha Yoga Center is about 40 minutes. I am sharing the timetable below so that you can get the exact timing of the buses.
In spite of the timetable shared, be prepared if there’s any change in the bus timing.
Now, the Gandhipuram Bus Depot is quite big. You may have to find your way to the exact bus stop from where you can catch the right bus for Adiyogi Statue.
You can enquire at the enquiry counter or ask any staff you see near the office from where you can board the bus for Isha Yoga Center. Even if you don’t speak the language of Tamil, you can ask them in English or Hindi too. Adiyogi is one of the landmarks of Coimbatore and every day many tourists flock to Gandhipuram to visit the place. When you use the keywords Isha Yoga Center or Adiyogi Statue you will be guided to the right bus stop or the right bus.
Cost of Bus Ticket per person
The one-way ticket to Adiyogi Statue is Rs. 40/- (Rupees Forty Only) per person.
The cost of the ticket may increase over a period of time if the Government decides to revise the cost.
Here, I would like to just mention on the go, without getting into much details:
You can reach Adiyogi even by hiring a private car. If you are coming to Coimbatore by flight, you can pre-book your cab from the Isha website and as you land; your car will be waiting to take you to Isha Yoga Centre.

The Bus Journey
Coming back to the bus journey to Isha Adiyogi Statue:
It’s going to be a one-hour long journey. Sometimes it may be more depending on the traffic.
Let me give you a few tips to make your journey a bit comfortable:
It’s better to board the bus at the starting point, which is Gandhipuram Bus Depot. And make sure that you get a seat to sit or else you may have to commute the whole one hour journey standing. If it’s a weekend, or holiday season, the rush will be even more in the bus.
When we boarded the bus it was empty. But within 20 minutes it was full. So, if you want to get a seat of your choice on the bus, come 15-20 minutes early before the departure time.
Secondly, do carry enough drinking water and some snacks just in case you get hungry on the way.
Thirdly, if you are travelling with kids make sure they have used washroom before you board the bus. On the way the bus will not stop for a bathroom break.
VISITING TIME
The Maha Shiva Adiyogi Statue visiting time starts from morning 6:00 AM. At around 8:00 PM, a 14 minute open air spectacular light and sound 3D laser show called Adiyogi Divya Darshanam is projected on the Adiyogi Statue during weekends and other auspicious occasions. Nowadays it’s happening on a daily basis. The Divya Darshanam narrates the story of Adiyogi and how the science of Yoga was given to us human beings.
Do confirm the details about the visiting time and Adiyogi Divya Darshanam at the time and day you plan to visit the place.
The buses start as early as 6:00 in the early hours of the morning. Do plan your visit and return journey based on the bus timings if you decide to visit by bus or else you might find it difficult to return to the main city. After sunset, late in the evenings, the bus timings might change based on the traffic of the city.
If you want to experience the Adiyogi Divya Darshanam then what I suggest is that plan reaching Adiyogi by 4:00 PM, so that you can explore the surroundings of the area and be seated by 7:30 PM for the 3D laser show. This is something not to be missed.
After the show you will have to walk back to the main gate to exit because buses are not allowed inside after may be 6:00 PM.
SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW & BE PREPARED FOR
If you came by bus, then you may have to wait for the bus to arrive. It may be a bit frustrating because you will find a good crowd waiting outside for bus. How much it will take for the bus to come? Nobody can predict. As I mentioned above, it depends on the traffic of the city and the area.
What we did is, we booked a call taxi from an app. We were lucky to find the taxi in the vicinity. We took the cab to return.
If you don’t want to wait for the bus while returning at night, then what I suggest is make some kind of transport arrangement to pick you up from the main entrance of Adiyogi. But if you are the adventurous type, then you may enjoy waiting for the bus to come to take you back to Gandhipuram.
You will not face this issue if you leave Adiyogi well before sunset. But then, you will miss out on the highlight of Adiyogi visit if you miss Adiyogi Divya Darshanam.
Finally, the destination: Adiyogi Shiva Statue
While travelling by bus, on the way the bus might get even more crowded as there were many passengers who wanted to reach places that were on the way to Adiyogi.
Remember, the bus from Gandhipuram bus depot is not a one stop direct bus to Adiyogi. Just like any other local government bus, this bus too follows its own route and stops at various places where passengers board and alight.
Finally, after about a one hour long journey, your bus will enter the Isha gate and reach the vast parking area. You may see lots of private buses and cars parked there. People and devotees flock here for the darshan of Adiyogi.
As you get down from the bus, you will see at a distance the massive statue of Adiyogi.
After the bus voyage, from the bus stop you embark on a totally new journey, a spiritual one, as you talk a long walk towards the Adiyogi Shiva Statue.
