Marudamalai Temple sits quietly on a hill at the edge of Coimbatore in the state of Tamilnadu — not shouting for attention, not demanding drama.
It’s one of those places where faith feels less like an event and more like a pause.
Whether you go for devotion, solitude, or just to walk with yourself for a few hours, the journey matters as much as the destination.
In this blog we are going to cover how you can reach Marudamalai Temple using public transport.
You can even hire a private taxi or travel by your own vehicle.
For this blog I travelled by public transport.

Here’s a clear, no-confusion guide to reach Marudamalai Temple in the cheapest way using public transport — tested by foot, patience, and lived experience.

Step 1: Reach Gandhipuram Town Bus Stand.
If you’re in Coimbatore, your first checkpoint is Gandhipuram Town Bus Stand.
⚠️ Important detail (many people get this wrong):
There are two bus stands at Gandhipuram.
Town Bus Stand → ✅ This is where you need to be
Outstation Bus Stand → ❌ This is opposite the town bus stand — don’t go there
If in doubt, ask for “Town bus stand” specifically.
Step 2: Catch Bus Route 70 or 76
From the town bus stand:
Look for buses with Route Number 70 or 76
The destination “Maruthamalai” will be scrolling digitally on the bus — similar to displays at railway stations or airports
Once the bus starts, it takes roughly 45 minutes to reach Marudamalai Temple.
Step 3: Ticket Details (as of 14 December 2025)
Ticket fare can be ₹23 or ₹12
It depends on the type of bus you get.
The ₹12 bus looks slightly different from the regular town bus. Ladies can travel free on this particular bus (a long-standing TN government initiative that continues across governments)
You might be wondering how much time it takes to reach Marudamalai Temple?
Let me tell you: It takes around 45 minutes to one hour to reach Marudamalai Temple after the bus starts depending on the traffic.
A small ticket. A long road. Fair deal.
So, if you’re travelling on a budget then this is the best way to visit Marudamalai Temple.
A Few Honest Tips 👇
Avoid Sundays & public holidays
Crowds multiply, and civic sense tends to take a day off. Boarding the bus can get chaotic.
If possible, use your own two-wheeler or four-wheeler on such days.
Carry water and light snacks — the journey + walking can take time.
Carry a small bag for trash.
Please don’t treat the road or hill as a dustbin.
If you don’t find a dustbin on the way, carry it back. Dispose it properly. The hill deserves that respect.

Final Thoughts (Worth Carrying Back)
Marudamalai doesn’t demand luxury, speed, or perfection.
It quietly rewards effort, patience, and responsibility.
Reach it slowly.
Travel thoughtfully.
And if you return home a little calmer — even after crowded buses —
the trip has already done its job.
Same road back.
Slightly better version of you. 🌿
